The Coronavirus Pandemic-April 9, 2020

This journal comes late today as I had a rough time feeling motivated. I started the day off with a bowl of granola and checked my email for work. I didn't have much to do today. I still hadn't heard from my physical therapist, but that's just the way things are going. Emily had her 14-year check-up with Dr. Mohanty at 11:20 AM. It lasted until after 12 PM.

I made a call for work then Emily and I set out to stop by her doctors office to pick something up, then to CVS to pick up her new medications. While we were out we grabbed some lunch from Subway. I am desperate for pain relief for my knee and shoulder so I purchased a $400 NEMS unit and got ready for our Levels Project meeting for work at 2:30. Since I'm still coughing I asked Debbie (my boss) if she could do the speaking. After the meeting I did more work and eventually called it a day. Emily and I decided to go for a walk down Ballantyne Commons today just for a change in scenery. We walked about an hour, came home and put on skates! We skated around the neighborhood, which is a lot further than we got last time! Learning to stop is next on my list! I did not fall, but I came close. Thank goodness for grass!

We were both tired so we settled in and watched Hollywood Week on American Idol and had PB&J sandwiches for dinner. I need to get on a better diet starting tomorrow. I ate 5 Oreo cookies, 1/2 a bag of Robin Eggs, and a Cadburry Egg in one day. Ugh.

Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood just announced closures until May 31. Schools here are still doing online learning. At CVS today, they had tape marking off the floor for "social distancing" and the waiting chairs were moved 6-feet apart. There were sneeze guards installed in front of the registers with a table that would require distance to the checkout machine. All of the pharmacy employees were wearing face masks, as well were other customers. This was the first store I had been in in 5 weeks. It was surreal.

Here are today's stats:

Globally: 1,600427 confirmed cases; 95,699 deaths US: 465,329 confirmed cases; 16,672 deaths

NY: 161,799 confirmed cases; 7,067 deaths NC: 3,736 confirmed cases; 76 deaths (Mecklenburg County: 861 confirmed cases; 10 deaths)

SC: 2,793 confirmed cases; 67 deaths
